About Carmen

the face behind the paintings & pictures

Hi, I’m honored that you want to know more about me! I am Carmen de Bruijn, Dutch by birth and now living with my husband and our dachshund Tinus in Belgium.
In the last 20 years, my work has become more and more creative. After studying Dutch law I worked as a lawyer at various companies. In January 2005 I started as a freelance writer of legal and journalistic articles.
Nowadays I mainly work as a painter and photographer.
My painting adventure started in 1996 when I made my first acrylic painting on a wooden panel. Some years later I studied realistic fine art techniques in oil and watercolor at Art Academy Te Wildt and with artist Mandy Nellestein. At the moment I mostly make acrylic and watercolor paintings and ink & watercolor illustrations.
During a month of traveling in New Zealand in 2004 I became passionate about photography and soon it was more than just a hobby to me. I have successfully completed the University of Applied Photography and started to combine my work as a freelance writer with photography.

Inspired by nature and traveling

Almost all my work is inspired by nature, from animals to beautiful landscapes and flowers. I enjoy it immensely, whether it is in my backyard or at a place far from home.

Traveling is a passion I share with my husband. Our ultimate travel destination is a combination of nature and nice, intimate cities or picturesque villages.

My favorite places so far: Bolivia, Iceland, New Zealand, Peru, South Africa, the Lofoten and Yellowstone.
